From the Sea to the City, Annual Meeting, 13-15 January, Athens
The European civil society network From the Sea to the City (FSTC) remains committed to make a welcoming Europe possible! Moving Cities met with the other member organisations of the consortium in its annual strategic meeting in Athens.
Key Highlights from the Gathering:
Engaging with New Partners – FSTC engaged with new organisations from Southeastern Europe such as Legal Aid Voice (Bulgaria) and Centre for Peace Studies (Zagreb) to address regional needs and enhance collaboration with arrival and transit municipalities.
Municipal Collaboration – Discussions with the municipality of Athens explored labour and housing policies, the activation of a network of Greek cities, challenges for migrants, and future cooperation with local organisations like the Greek Forum of Refugees and Second Tree Ioannina.
Expanding Safe Harbours – Strategies were developed to strengthen the International Alliance of Safe Harbours (IASH) as a key political actor, fostering dialogue between cities and civil society and joint advocacy strategies with our consortium.
Strategic Planning for 2025 – With EU migration funding expected to decrease after 2027, FSTC focused on advocacy strategies, considering the impact of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS) on cities and campaigning for direct EU funding for municipalities engaged in migrant support.
In Athens FSTC reaffirmed its mission: to reshape Europe's approach to migration by placing cities and human rights at its core!
